Our Ingredients

All of our products begin with a base of organic grass-fed tallow. To read more about tallow visit our About Tallow page. We hand-render our locally-sourced tallow over the course of 8-10 hours so as not to alter the nutrients in the oils.

Once the oils are separated from the beef suet, they are white and quite hard at room temperature. To enable them to be more easily applied, we add small amounts of plant-based oils and whip them into the tallow. After much experimentation, we selected the following high-quality organic oils to enrich our product.

Oils

Jojoba Oil- Jojoba oil is actually a wax, making it similar to our skin's sebum. Due to its less reactive molecular structure, it's considered a superior conditioner for human skin over plant-based oils that are susceptible to breaking down, which can damage skin cells and potentially promoting aging.

Coconut Oil- Coconut oil is loaded with medium-chain fatty acids, or saturated fats, that are important for skin health and for protection against harmful microorganisms. We leave it out of our face products because some believe it may clog pores, although there is evidence that it is actually helpful for acne-prone skin or inflammation.

Herbs

We infuse our Texas Tallow products with some of our favorite skin-loving herbs grown organically in our gardens or wildcrafted from our Texas ranch land. The herbs are picked fresh and dried and then added directly into the carrier oils where they macerate for over a month to impart their beneficial properties into the oils. The herbs are then strained out and the oils are used to create nourishing Texas Tallow butters, soaps and more. This process captures a broader spectrum of the herb's benefits than the herb's essential oil alone and makes for a much gentler and safer application.
